Stracta Apartments Orustustaðir

Stracta Apartments, part of the Stracta Hotel brand, offers 28 self-catering units on Orustustaðir farm in southeastern Iceland. The area’s main landmark is Orustuhóll (Battle Hill), known for its striking shape and mystical tales. A scenic 7-kilometer gravel road follows the lava line left by the Laki eruption, leading from the main road to Stracta Apartments – just 200 meters from Orustuhóll.

Two well-known stories explain the hill’s name. One tells of a fierce battle between settlers Þorkell Alviðrukappi and Hróar Tungugoði. Another claims that elves fought here before the Laki eruption in 1783. According to legend, Orustuhóll is still inhabited by elves, and those who fall asleep on the hill risk disappearing into their world.

Hiking up to Orustuhóll offers breathtaking views that are difficult to put into words. During your stay at Stracta Apartments, we highly recommend exploring the rich history and natural splendor of southeast Iceland.

We’ll be sharing more fascinating local stories, myths, and history-so keep an eye out!

Best wishes,
