Foss á Síðu is a magnificent waterfall located just west of Stracta Apartments Orustustaðir. Though it’s situated on private land, there’s an excellent viewpoint with a dedicated stop where you can take photos and enjoy the stunning scenery.

The farm at Foss á Síðu has been in the same family for generations. While it is no longer a working farm, it remains a cherished family home. In the past, it was used for both sheep and cattle farming.
Did you know? The waterfall was once cleverly used for electricity production. The farmers would dam the water and control its flow to suit their needs. Back in the early 1900s, Eiríkur Steingrímsson, the farmer at the time, would release the dam whenever guests were expected — making the waterfall appear larger and more graceful upon their arrival.
Foss á Síðu is located approximately 10 km from Kirkjubæjarklaustur. In the summer, you can also stop by the café at Hamrafoss, located just below the waterfall, where you’ll find delicious homemade treats and a beautiful view to go with them.
